Why Join Us
The scale and impact of our work mean what we do truly matters, and that is what makes a career here so rewarding.
Thank you for your interest in joining the Gambling Commission.
We are a unique organisation with a vital purpose. We regulate the gambling industry in Great Britain, which includes the largest online gambling markets in the world, to ensure it is fair, crime free and safe for vulnerable people. With over 22.5 million adults regularly engaging in gambling and a market worth more than 15 billion pounds in gross annual revenue, it is a complex, fastmoving industry that relies heavily on technology. The scale and impact of our work mean what we do truly matters, and that is what makes a career here so rewarding.
Our Deal
We want everyone at the Gambling Commission to feel valued, supported and rewarded for the work they do. We offer a comprehensive rewards package, known as Our Deal, that goes beyond pay and remuneration.
Your contribution to the work of the Gambling Commission will be recognised and rewarded with a salary in line with your responsibilities. An annual pay review ensures that your earnings remain competitive.
The Gambling Commission also offers a Civil Service Pension, one of the most attractive pension arrangements in the UK, with an employer contribution of 28.97%.
We also have a flexible lifestyle benefits scheme that allows you to hand‑pick the perks that suit your personal needs and enjoy tax advantages at the same time. Simply make your selections during our enrolment window, and your chosen benefits will start the following month. At the same time, our discounts scheme gives you access to savings across supermarkets, high‑street favourites and online retailers so that you can enjoy more of what you love for less. And for families, the government‑run tax-free childcare scheme offers more support.
You can also take advantage of Cycle to Work, interest free rail season ticket loans and interest free SmartTech purchases paid through your salary.
A work–life balance that lets you thrive
Our approach to work aims to encourage productive and healthy work habits. We have a range of initiatives that allow time for the things you love outside work. Our full-time hours are 37‑hours per week and our hybrid working model (typically requiring you to attend the Birmingham office one day per week) facilitates even more freedom.
The standard annual leave for the Chief Executive is 29 days per year.
Above all, we’re committed to creating an environment where balance is part of everyday work. This isn’t just something we say, as of April 2026, 39% of our people take advantage of our alternative working patterns options. We encourage healthy working habits that promote wellbeing, so you can build a career that supports, not competes with, your personal life.
Growing and succeeding
The Gambling Commission has a culture of succession, with 58% of opportunities being filled internally in 2025. We are committed to your professional development and offer a wide range of learning opportunities at all levels.
As proud members of the West Midland Employers Coaching and Mentoring Pool we offer a range of apprenticeships. Subject to qualifying criteria, you can gain invaluable on the job learning and a professional qualification in an area relevant to your role.
You will have access to a wealth of resources on our digital learning platform so that you have the right knowledge and skills for your role.
We are also able to host and sponsor secondments with other Public Bodies for wider experience
More informally, we host regular colleague engagement activities such as our Exec led Connect sessions and our in-person colleague conferences allow everyone to stay updated about the work of specific teams and across the Commission.
And finally, we have a recognition scheme to reward high performance.
Culture
We’re proud to foster a people focused, collaborative culture where everyone feels valued for who they are and what they bring.
Our approach starts with our values (Constructive, Fair, Accountable and Professional) and is supported by our People and Culture Strategy. This is not just the right thing to do; it helps us build effective teams that better understand and reflect the wide range of people involved in the gambling industry we regulate.
We want you to reach your full potential, and we are committed to creating an environment where that’s possible. You’ll always be treated with dignity and respect as we recognise that when people feel truly valued, they’re empowered to do their best work.
Our commitment comes to life through several vibrant employee network and social groups, bringing together colleagues with shared goals or backgrounds. It’s also reflected in the accolades and recognition we’ve earned for our culture.
